The burglary attempts happened inside Clothier Residence Hall between 4 and 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, campus police said in a Facebook post. The dorm is at 590 George Street on the College Avenue campus.

The first witness reported seeing the suspect try to steal a valuable item from the witness's sleeping roommate. The suspect returned the item when the witness confronted him and the would-be thief left.

A victim in another room then reported the suspect putting valuable items into a bag and trying to leave with them. The suspect left after returning the items when the victim asked for them to be returned.

No one was injured and there were no signs of forced entry into either room.

The suspect was described as a roughly 18-to-24-year-old man who was about 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8. He was wearing grey jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, and a black bandana.

Anyone with information about the attempted burglaries should call the Rutgers University Police Department at 848-932-4984.
